Kumiho

Fox spirits who assume a human, or semi-human form, often have more than one tail, with it being attested to them having nine tails generally. They are innately magickal, with a deep curiosity, and may be related to the Kitsune, though that link is unverified in mystical texts and records. What we do know about Kumiho is that they tend to be a bit on the heretical side. They push against norms, including social norms, and while those that agree to work with humans are loyal, they are also innately against societies needing to push roles. Their societies, structures, and ways of living don’t include a bias in any one direction, though they do tend more toward tribal societies than other fox spirits. With such a push against social norms and structures some see Kumiho as malevolent, but the reality is they are more independent. They aren’t a being who needs to be watched over, or even put on task as much, but those that do work with humans have a loyalty. For them the choice to work with someone, or to be of aid, is a sacred pact, more than responsibility, it's choosing to dedicate their life to help another, and that makes them fiercely loyal. As they tend to push against tradition, rather than study mysticism in a more wide method, they tend to focus on honing their instinctive gifts, and gaining a level of mastery in those gifts. Each Kumiho is drawn to different powers and abilities, though most have some power over illusion. Those that do take a wider view of magick tend toward being experimenters, inventors, and geniuses in their own right. Those that take toward combat, tend to blend tried and true methods of fighting with whimsy and acrobatics making them a constantly moving target, shifting shape and pattern of attack almost at random. Those that focus on an art, choose to master that art, making Kumiho focused in a single area all the more impressive be it as craft makers, explorers, healers, teachers, or protectors.
