Nekomata
Shape-shifting cat-like creatures who are seen in Japanese lore and mythologies, Nekomata are intricately connected to magick and mysticism. Tricksters and shape shifters by nature, they appear as multitailed cats, can often take on a human form, and may be related to Kitsune in some ways. The Nekomata have the same curiosity cats are famous for, and are just as stubborn as any of their feline cousins. While tricksters, they will obey rules, but are best suited to a home where they will be allowed some level of play and fun. Nekomata tend to have extraordinary insight into how things move and change, as well as a level of patience that is remarkable. This patient nature, coupled with a playfulness, inquisitive mind, and deep connection to magick means that those who do study multiple forms of magick, or deep mysteries of their own powers, they make formidable casters who not just work magick, but improve upon and even at times create new forms of magick. As warriors, they see battle more as a hunt, similar to their cat cousins, and use their stealth and other skills to avoid direct conflicts, seeking instead to “take down their prey” not “fight head first.” Nekomata drawn to work with humans do so for many reasons, with curiosity often being one of those. This curiosity mixed with an innate loyalty, means once a human is part of their family, in their mind, they are fiercely protective, and dedicated.
