Nixies

A kind of river being from the Germanic lands, they come in many shapes and forms, with Nix being the male form, and Nixe being females, and Nixies being the plural of their name. Intricately tied to rivers, lakes, streams, and other small bodies of water, they always have strong connections to the element of water, often having deep control over the powers of water, as well as deep understandings of it. Nixies tend toward being guardians, and their connection to water as well as shape shifting qualities makes them a diverse type of being. Nixies come in all types of personalities, genders, and ideologies. Their communities tend to be just as diverse and accepting, often in realms centered around their preferred habitat. All nixies share a love of nature, especially open water areas. Nixies who decide to work with humans don’t require bodies of water, but do benefit from water based offerings. Nixies have an innate understanding of change, as lakes, rivers, and other small water sources often change and develop over the course of time. Those who work with humans tend to get something out of the exchange, learning more of the solidity of the human world and nature of our lives, as well as the rapid changes that can happen in a human life. They often see us as both savants developing amazingly fast, as well as young and child-like in comparison to themselves, and as a result often take a protective stance on behalf of their companion humans.
