Vatnavaettir (River/Lake Spirits)

Vatnavaettir, or River Spirits are a type of water and nature elemental spirit that comes forth from rivers, planes of rivers, or realms in which rivers are frequent. Because of this they can often be found near rivers in our realms, and have a preference for steady flowing water. Almost all Vatnavaettir have a strong connection to water, nature, and energies of that type. Likewise almost all of these amazing spirits have a powerful magickal energy centered around flow, change, and the orientation of shifting things within the greater world. Like all spiritual beings, they range in their personal nature, how they view the world, from being to being, but they very frequently are easy going, gentle, and compassionate. Their deep connections to magickal energies, nature energies, and water makes them fantastic in a wide range of areas from protection, to cleansing, to life changes. While most often easy going, Vatnavaettir are also always active. Like the rivers they often watch over, and travelers they help along the way, they like to stay moving, active, with things to do. When a Vatnavaettir has nothing to do, they find things they can help with, or seek to bring balance and harmony to an area. While they can appear as humans, or animals, they often have a dynamic water, river, or nature like quality to them associated with their very nature. Those who do not appear as a watery form will often have qualities of water about them, for example a Raven Vatnavaettir may always seem to have wet feathers, or a bit of water dripping from their beak or talon, where a human one who has no other signs of their nature may seem to be perpetually as if they just stepped out of a river, clothing or body glistening with the fresh clean water. Their strong nature and magickal qualities mean many become mystics, but most focus on refining their strong points. Some do however branch out into polarly opposite fields such as fire magick. Their communities tend to be areas of rest and readying for the journey either to another river to explore, or readying for a grand journey to aid others, and their realms are realms of perpetual river flows. Those who wish to work with humans in our realm, do not need to be near a source of running water, but often enjoy access to water as offerings, and to have a deep compassion and very active mind.
